  • My check engine light is on. Should I be concerned?
    Yes. If your check engine light is on there is a problem and should not be ignored. A simple problem could turn major if ignored. You need to have your vehicle scanned to determine why this light is on. Once you know why light is on it needs to be fixed.

  • How much does a transmission cost?
    That is a great question. Unfortunately its not that simple. Every vehicle has a different transmission therefore a different price. We would first need to determine if you really need one. Historically 4 out of 5 vehicles that I diagnose are nothing more than a minor fix. Let's not jump to conclusions before I even take a look at your vehicle. If you do need a transmission we have many options available that will fit your budget.

  • I keep hearing you say you need to scan my vehicle. What does scanning a vehicle mean?
    Scanning a vehicle is how a diagnosis is performed. It is where my scanner will communicate with the computer in your vehicle. The newer the vehicle the more information I can retrieve. The scanner allows me to look at speed sensors, shift solenoids, spark plugs and many other electrical components that have to do with the operation of your transmission. This information will help me determine exactly what is wrong with your vehicle.

  • I have a leak. How much to fix that?
    There are numerous places that a transmission can leak. I really need to visually inspect by putting your vehicle on lift before I can answer that question. I will tell you that any leak should be a concern and evaluated immediately.

  • How often should I change my transmission fluid?
    Industry standards recommends once a year or every 12,000 - 15,000 miles. By doing this you could add years to the life of your transmission. Transmission fluid breaks down and loses its viscosity over time and needs to be replaced; however the most important part is the transmission filter. Today's filters are made from a material called Dacron where as filters in the past where nothing more than a screen. Today's filters are so efficient that they tend to clog up faster therefore need to be changed more often.

  • What is the difference between a transmission service and a transmission flush?
    A service consists of scanning vehicle, removing transmission pan, draining fluid, changing filter and pan gasket unless gasket is washable, in some cases adjusting bands and a test drive.


  • A flush consists of attaching a machine to your transmission and removing fluid through your transmission. The filter is not changed. Personally I am a firm believer in a service rather than a flush. I believe your filter is the most important part and needs to be changed.

  • Is it necessary to stop completely while shifting from D to R?
    YES...By fully stopping you will eliminate stress on the drive-train. By stopping completely you will add years to the life of your transmission.

  • The parts store has a bottle of solution that will fix my transmission for $19.95. It's suppose to stop it from leaking. Does it work?
    Unfortunately NO. Nothing in a bottle or a can is going to magically turn into a new seal, gasket, or a metal part. As parts become worn out or broken they need to be replaced. As it says on the dipstick of your transmission USE ONLY automatic transmission fluid that your vehicle calls for.
